Well the time has finally come! This Friday we leave on the start of our much anticipated adventure. Paula, Marie, Tricia and Kevin spent most of Saturday shopping for our food supplies for the trip. By the looks of the photos they took they spent more time posing in Woolworths than in securing our supplies!
The food was duly packed and divided and Paula arrived home yesterday afternoon with our share. Steve and Helen are already on the road. They left last week and are currently in Hedland visiting their son and enjoying the warm weather. We can’t wait to join them and get out of the cold and into some shorts!
Yesterday Steve packed up the car as far as he could and also loaded up the camper. Our clothes are now all packed. The camper is ready to go and all that is needed is to put in a few of the last minute bits and pieces.
The kids are staying home and house sitting for us. This is a little nerve wracking as we have told them several times to be careful and look after the place. Despite all of our lectures and warning we came home last night after visiting some friends to a funny smell. On investigating we found that Mark had left the electric sandwich maker pugged in, switched on and had gone to bed. That did a lot to sooth our nerves just before we leave!
Steve will try to update the blog from time to time when we are away, however we will have very limited internet access. We have purchased a Spot Satellite Messenger and we intend to use this every day whilst we are away. Basically it acts as a messenger to friends and family as well as having a rescue function that we can activate in the case of emergency. An added bonus is that our locations can be exported to a web site where you can follow our adventures. The link is included below and is hyperlinked on the right hand side of this page under “Some Web Sites”. Our Spot Tracker Page
Our first leg will see us heading to Port Hedland via Newman. We anticipate arriving sometime on Sunday.
