The Countdown! - June 6

Well our long planned trip to the Kimberley is drawing near. In just over 3 weeks we will be embarking on the adventure with Kevin (Rambo), Marie (RR1), Glenn (Breaker), Tricia (Fire Bug) Steve (Step Hen) and Helen (Princess). The kids will be in control of our house (a frightening prospect) and we will be living in the Quantum!

This weekend saw our final planning meeting take place. We also took advantage of getting together to finish some prep work on the cars. Diff breathers have been installed (there were some problems in this regard on our last trip) and Steve and Helen had some sun reflectors fitted to their Prado. We are all ready to go! Whilst the boys were working on the cars the girls were inside working on the menu and shopping list (and drinking of course).

Our trip planning meetings tend to be an excuse for a get together and more than a few drinks. In fact, there were quite a few sore heads this morning so our planning must have been very intense. Glenn and Tricia were fantastic hosts once again! Steve wasn’t able to attend this year’s Caravan and Camping show with the rest of us so he missed out on picking up one of the electric bug zappers that were there. We are an inclusive lot and actually got one for him without his knowledge. I’m sure he was close to tears when we presented him with his own bug zapper! He certainly looked stunned.

We also took the opportunity to present each of our group with their official tour shirt (thanks Mum for the embroidering). As you can tell from the photo attached, we look pretty spiffy in our “uniform”. It’s a pity that Glenn and Steve have already spilt food all over theirs!

During the afternoon we had the chance to see Rambo use his new shotgun and air rifle for the first time. The shotgun certainly makes a lot of noise and definitely packs a punch! In fact Glenn’s neighbours were a little unsure of what was going on!

The evening deteriorated into a bit of a swim through, but judging by the photos we all had a good time. Thanks Helen for getting some good pics!

This morning saw us start a little slowly, but after a hearty breakfast we finally settled down to a real meeting to sort out the last few bits. Things being finally settled we set about making some insulators for the fridges (thanks again for supplying the materials Glenn). A little before lunch time we all said our goodbyes and headed the vehicles for home.

We are all looking forward to the trip immensely. If the last two days is anything to go by we will have a great time together!

Paula and I will try to update the blog from time to time whilst we are away, however we will be out of range of internet connections for much of the time so the updates may be a little sporadic.
