The real world has been getting us down a bit lately so both Paula and I decided to get away for the weekend in the Quantum again. We have avoided weekend camping trips in the past because we came back more tired than when we went, but we figured that the Quantum might make things easier. We were right! Packing for the trip was a dream – very little to do! We were all loaded up and ready to go in no time.
We left after work on Friday and made good time to Jurien Bay, arriving a little after 6pm. Our friends Kevin, Marie, Steve and Helen had arrived a little before us and had secured a lovely camp site with plenty of shade and room. We were able to set up in no time and were soon enjoying the warm evening, some drinks and good company. Shane and Irene, some friends who have a holiday house in Jurien, joined us for the evening and we all had a wonderful time.
The weather was very “unJurien” like as the wind stayed away for the whole weekend. The Cape was surprisingly full for a weekend and there were lots of people fishing, swimming and enjoying the scenery. Apparently there were plenty of tailer and whiting to be caught and although I did pack some of my fishing gear, the rod stayed in the car – we just wanted to chill out. We did very little over the whole weekend except relax and enjoy the company of our friends. For Steve and Helen, it was their first camping trip in their Jayco Eagle outside a caravan park. There were many conversations about the best way to go about everything from managing power and fridges through to showers and how to boil the kettle when in the bush! (There is a story here, but we will leave that to Helen to tell!)
We basically whiled the day away doing not much. In the afternoon Shane and Irene visited again, along with some other friends Erwin and Dana. It looked like another big night was on the agenda – and it was. We all enjoyed a sumptuous tea prepared by Steve and Helen (those eggs were a work of art Steve!) and an evening filled with laughter and plenty of alcohol.
Sunday was probably the pick of the days with balmy weather and calm seas. We all felt a little twinge at the thought of leaving, but we knew that we have to finance our lifestyles in one way or another so after a lazy morning and a lovely swim, we started to pack up for home. Once again, the Quantum lived up to expectations and our pack up was quick and trouble free. We were all ready to head home by about midday and Paula and I arrived home just after 3pm. Our clean up was quick and simple and we were able to sit down in front of the TV for the evening.
All in all we had a wonderful weekend. We really enjoyed the company of our fellow campers and visitors and haven’t laughed so much in years! We can’t wait to do it again!
