It had to happen Steve eventually turned 50! (Actually, it didn’t have to happen, but it is definitely more preferable than the alternative.) Although he has been in denial for the past few months the birthday finally arrived.
Turning 50 on a weekend meant that I (please excuse the change from the third person to the first, but it is easier) was able to enjoy two full days and three full nights of excess. Actually the celebrations were kept very low key. We headed out to the Seaview on the Friday night with the kids and their partners for a lovely meal. It was nice to spend time with the family as their lives and our busy schedule seem to make it harder to spend time together.
I had an absolutely wonderful day. After all the events of last year I have come to really appreciate the value of family – sounds corny, but means a lot to me!
Of course, good friends are also important and on Sunday I was able to celebrate with some very special friends over lunch at Durty Nellie’s Pub. Paula and I enjoyed the company of Glenn, Tricia, Kevin and Marie over a most enjoyable lunch. We had a great time, but their rendition of “Happy Birthday” did leave a little to be desired.
All in all it was a pleasant and enjoyable weekend. In fact I wish I could enjoy every weekend as much. Only 9 months to Paula’s birthday…..perhaps we will have just as much fun!
